Milam County Jail

Closing Advice

Interview with Charlie and Don

JM: Is there anything else you would want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to jail?
Charlie: Write often to them. They can also receive books, periodicals and newspapers in the mail IF they come directly from the publisher. Send them a little money to put on their books if you can – commissary day is a big day in jail and the little luxuries are all-important. Jail is no picnic but you can be sure that most of the jailers and staff in Milam County are professionals, honestly care for the well-being of the inmates and are diligent in their jobs. As the guy said in Midnight Express, “May it pass quickly.”
Don: to be supported of that family member cause the jail offers nothing like hygenes ect..

JM: Is there anything else you would recommend to a future inmate?
Charlie: Do what you are told to do when you are told to do it by staff, don't try to bring in or have contraband, don't fight, and never touch another inmate's stuff. And you'll get along fine.
Don: be respectful and mind your own business

Once bond is posted for an inmate, they are released fairly quickly (45 min-1 hour). The majority of the time it takes is just getting their property back to them, signing paperwork, etc.
