Milam County Jail

Inmates

Interview with Charlie and Don

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates?
Charlie: Many inmates do. There are quiet tanks where everybody in the tank just wants to serve their sentence and get out, and there are noisy tanks where everybody wants to party or fight or cause trouble 24/7. Each tank has a small TV set with basic local cable which is turned on in the morning and turned off at mealtimes and lights out, and usually the longest-serving or baddest inmate in the tank controls what is on at any particular time.
Don: no

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Charlie: Never touch another inmate's possessions without permission, never awaken another inmate unnecessarily, do not be overly loud or boisterous, and keep decent personal hygiene (shower at least once a day).
Don: walk away

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate if you knew one?
Charlie: No.
Don: no
